FAQ

Scar Camouflage Tattoo

What is scar camouflage ?

Scar camouflage tattooing is one of several paramedical tattooing treatments, designed to restore visual harmony to affected areas and boost confidence. A camouflage tattoo is a specialized cosmetic procedure that blends scars, stretch marks, or areas of uneven skin tone with surrounding natural skin using custom-matched pigments.

Can scar camouflage completely remove a scar?

No. No treatment can fully remove a scar—even surgical removal creates a new scar. Scar camouflage tattooing blends the scar with surrounding skin, reducing visibility and softening contrast. While it neutralizes discoloration, it does not change the underlying texture; raised or recessed areas remain. Results depend on the scar’s type, color, and age.

How many sessions are required?

Most scars require three sessions, with a fourth sometimes needed for clients with poor pigment retention, to achieve optimal color blending and natural-looking results. The exact number depends on the scar’s type, size, color, and skin characteristics. Sessions are spaced approximately eight weeks apart to allow proper healing and pigment settlement before adding another layer.

When can a scar be tattooed?

A scar can usually be tattooed once it is fully healed, typically 12 months or more after the injury or surgery. The scar should be flat, stable, and light in color for optimal pigment retention and natural-looking results.

Can keloid scars be tatooed?

Keloid scars can be challenging to tattoo. Raised, thick, and dark-colored scars have a high risk of further elevation when pigment is applied. Scar camouflage may lighten the scar and reduce contrast, but usually cannot achieve completely smooth, natural-looking results. In some cases, parallel treatment with a dermatologist, such as flattening injections, can improve outcomes. Clients often receive injections before and after scar camouflage completion for the best results. While the final appearance may be less perfect, many still choose the procedure for visual improvement.

How long does a scar camouflage session take?

The initial session is usually the longest, as it includes a consultation before treatment. Most sessions last 1–2 hours, allowing the process to be unhurried and comfortable. Smaller scars may take 30–40 minutes, depending on their size, type, and complexity.

Is scar camouflage treatment painful?

Most clients experience mild discomfort, often described as a slight scratching or irritating sensation rather than true pain. The procedure is performed slowly, and we pause and resume as needed to ensure your comfort. Client well-being is a top priority.
